Club History

The West of Scotland Indoor Bowling Club was set up in 1964, when the building was purchased from Dunn's, the directors of Clyde F.C.

The Club is situated directly opposite Shawfield Stadium, the original ground of Clyde F.C. which is now only used as a greyhound racing track. In the 1970's, the then owners of the Club went into liquidation, and the Club was purchased by the members. Interest free loans were offered to the members to generate income and this continued until the early 1980's. The club still currently has approximately 70 loan members.

Currently, there are only two indoor clubs in Scotland which have 12 rinks, the West of Scotland and Aberdeen, which affords the club the facilities to stage major national competitions on a regular basis.

During the late 90's, the Club became equal rights status, and in 2002, was awarded a National Lottery Grant of £124,000 from Sportscotland, which assisted in the installation of a new roof and exterior cladding.

The Club has had many famous members including world singles champions John Watson, Jan Woodley, David Gourlay and Hugh Duff together with many international players. Details can be found in the Honours Board section of the Website.
